I am at the point in my business where I really need to settle down with a logo that will tell about myself and who I am as a person, who we are as a company. I know, I did this back-wards, but I have never really been “traditional” my entire life, so why should I start now. I am too old and set in my ways.. Did that just come from me?
I have taken what my designer has given to me based on what she knows about us, who we are and what the logo and name of our business means. For almost 1 year, I have been playing with social media seriously.
I have set up many different accounts with different profiles to be able to brand myself. I have spent countless hours, reading about how to do certain things. What works in this Social Media, may not work in this one. I had to find a few social media channels that I could invest time in to see if my potential clients were there. All that said because I needed to create a name for my self.
I just did a Google search on my name and I was quite surprised on all that I showed up on. All good, mind you but I show up on a ton of pages with just my name. Now my goal is to spread out my name so that people who know my name can view what I have done and how I can help them do what they need to do with their business.
However, with this and some new projects I have been involved and spoke to people about, I have to start thinking of branding my company now. I have to think of why we formed the company in the first place almost 2 years ago this week.
I have to bring back the “thoughts” and the reasoning behind all of this and create colors that match. Luckily my wife who is co-founder did that on our first rendition of our website. However, we have not had a logo for that website as her focuses shifted and so did mine.
I have been reading a ton of information on color, why use a certain color, why not use a certain color, what color actually means for a brand. What color means to me, what color means to other people from other countries. I looked at I would say 1,000’s of logos that are being used, some very well known logo’s have a created a Brand around that image and they know that people know exactly what company it is by that logo.
However, What i didn’t know and some friends from my G+ CIB (Christian in Business ) community let me know is that brands and images do change from time to time. So even though I am hard at trying to find the right combo for my logo, maybe I really don’t have to put more sweat equity or thoughts into this.
We picked out our 2 colors, we picked out our name and a symbol, that should be enough right?
It is not for me, I am stubborn (German in me) – I do want a good looking logo, I do want something that will resonate in the minds of my future and current customers. I want something that people will look and know immediately or shortly there-after if they want to do business with me.
I want something that “pops” something that has some simple elements that are easy to reproduce down the road if I need something printed, or embroidered or used for other purposes.
Am I wrong in thinking this way?
Love to hear your comments, do you think I am going way off base with this, or do many business owners deal with this? As most people say when they “own” something – This is my baby!
I am praying and seeking guidance from many on this subject, I believe it is a very important part that needs an answer soon.
PS. I might be inserting a video here as well as vlog, like I promised before and maybe by talking instead of writing it might be better and different for you the reader.
PPS. This blog has changed color many times as well, not sure about this one, but it seems to go better then the others, I have tried.
One last thought: If I do create my brand for the company, how is the best way to tie that into my personal brand. That means I have to build for my company and my personal brand?
